2019 Louisiana Day of Bonsai Featuring Brussel Martin

The annual 2019 Louisiana Day of Bonsai will be hosted by the Louisiana Bonsai Society (LBS), July 20, at the Baton Rouge Garden Center, 7950 Independence Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA. This will be a full day of bonsai, food, and fun with friends. The guest artist will be Brussel Martin, founder of Brussel’s Bonsai, Olive Branch, MS. Cost: $12- lunch included, Registration starts at 8:00AM

Vendors include the following bonsai experts with a wide range of bonsai material to sell. All the vendors are bonsai experts who can give valuable advice to help you enjoy the hobby of bonsai.

Bonsai Lecture/Demo-9:00 am Brussel will do a trident maple group planting that will be raffled at the end of the day.

Bonsai Show– You can enter a bonsai in the show to compete for the Vaughn Banting Award for Design Excellence. Any type bonsai tree you have developed is welcome in the competition, except trees from a workshop in the past 3 years. Everybody who attends will be able to vote for one bonsai display. Voting to determine the winner will be completed before lunch.

Raffle tickets will be available for sale all day for the trident maple forest created by Brussel in demo. The raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20.

Silent Auction of miscellaneous nice bonsai items donated to help defray costs and for everyone’s enjoyment.

Lunch at noon-some fantastic jambalaya, fried fish, and all the trimmings. This will be a lunch and learn. We will have some short bonsai presentations from some of the clubs. John Pearson from Lake Charles Bonsai Society will do a short program, and Charles Canfield from the Shreveport Bonsai Society will do a program about using Southern maples to do bonsai.

Bonsai workshop– 1:00 pm conducted by Brussel Martin limited to eight people who will have their own tree that being a bonsai that needs to be improved or a good tree with potential to be a good bonsai. Your material should be old/developed enough for you to learn something in the workshop. The workshop is designed for all levels of Experience. We will have some volunteers to assist beginners with the basics so Brussel will have time to work with the experienced people. It is also designed to be a great learning experience for observers. It costs $40 to participate and is free to observers.

Please RVSP as soon as possible so we can have enough food. This an outstanding program for the price of a lunch.
